LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF
Dr. Elizabeth Houghton – Licensed Psychologist in West Hartford.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I received my master’s degree and doctorate from the Wright Institute in Berkeley California. I completed my doctoral training at U.C. Davis Medical Center in rehabilitation neuropsychology. For over fifteen years I have worked to combine my interest in neuroscience and my passion for recovery and wellness. I have worked in inpatient hospital settings, outpatient clinics, community mental health agencies and private practice. My specific clinical interests include: complex trauma and dissociative disorders/personality disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, gender identity issues, ADHD, self-injury, and disordered eating. I use an integrative approach combining an analytic lens and evidence-based treatment interventions such as cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction. I have extensive experience in psychological and neuropsychological testing. During my tenure as a psychiatric hospital administrator and staff educator, I was recruited to join Maine’s DHHS Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Coalition to address biases in the state’s workforce and develop LGBTQIA+ training for state employees. I work with adolescents, adults and geriatric clients.

Therapy
Therapy is a skilled communication process that encourages open and honest dialogue while building trust and self reflection. It can enhance mood, increase knowledge and skills while improving ones ability to face adversity in daily life. Therapy can improve symptoms of depressive and anxiety related disorders, PTSD, and ADHD.
Family
Family therapy helps improve tension and communication within families and in intimate relationships to nurture change and development.
Group
Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time. Group work offers social support and builds reflection and personal responsibility. Groups may be process oriented or focused on skill building.
Teens
Therapy is a safe space for teens to process thoughts and emotions. Therapeutic support can nurture self-esteem and self-compassion while improving emotional and behavioral regulation skills. Therapy builds insight and reflective capacity during a critical neurodevelopmental phase.
Psychological Assessment
There are many types of psychological evaluations. Psychological tests, clinical interviews, and other tools are used to measure and observe an individual’s behavior to determine a diagnosis and create a treatment plan with interventions and supports.
